What was once an area filled with rutted parking lots, abandoned warehouses, and a limestone hill cluttered with signs, is now an eighty-five-acre complex that draws more than five million visitors every year.

We’re talking about the Crown Center, and it features five interconnected, seven-story buildings, as well as a fountain that includes forty-eight water shooters that spout up to sixty feet in the air.

Home to Hallmark’s international headquarters, the center was one of the first mixed-use redevelopments in the United States.

Highlights include:

Chips Chocolate Factory

Chips Chocolate Factory is known for making the city’s richest and most creamy handmade fudge. Featured on the Food Network’s Kid in a Candy Store, guests can watch as this delicious treat is made right in front of them. There are more than forty flavors, and the shop also offers more than two hundred handmade chocolate confections that the chocolatiers create from premium Swiss chocolate.

Fritz’s Railroad Restaurant

This is a unique restaurant that delivers meals to the tables using its signature railroad. Family owned and operated, Fritz’s is famous for serving old-fashioned hamburgers made with one hundred percent choice ground beef and onions seared in the meat. The cooks make the patties to order, and choices include Freddie, Kitchen Sink, and Mr. F.D.

Sea Life Aquarium

Step into an underwater adventure at Sea Life Aquarium. It’s fun for kids and adults alike, and it offers up close views of more than five thousand sea creatures. Exhibits include “Harbor,” “Shoaling,” and “Doodle Reef.”
