Eating Unforked in Overland Park

Uncorked in Overland Park

Every year, it seems there are new rules to follow to find healthy, nutritious foods. What we once thought was bad for you might turn out to be great! Or even worse, the thing you thought was healthy is actually bad for you. GMONon-GMO, and Organic are all terms that inundate hungry consumers every day in grocery stores and restaurants.

Fortunately for residents of Signature Place, there’s a restaurant nearby that serves up tasty, just-plain-good-for-you cuisine. That heaven is Unforked in Overland Park.

For residents of Signature Place at Nottingham, eating better and changing the world doesn’t have to be so hard. Why reinvent the wheel when you can tweak it? That’s exactly the attitude of the team at Overland Park eatery Unforked where the slogan is “Honest, Clean Food.” They deliver a healthy Kansas City twist on burgers, fries, tacos, and shakes. The price is nice too, considering the quality ingredients and careful effort that go into making every dish special at this popular local restaurant. Plus, as you may have guessed, forks and utensils are optional. So let’s dig right in!

Red Meat Can Be Good for You

100% pure Akaushi Beef Burger: Beef patty, lettuce, tomato, and house dressing on a toasted egg bun.

The rare Japanese Akaushi cattle (Japanese brown) breed was breed fit for emperors long ago in Japan. Since the mid-1990s, the majority of the remaining Akaushi live on a ranch here in the United States. Currently, Akaushi is considered some of the finest beef in the world and it is touted for its health benefits, as well.

Farm-to-Unforked Burgers

Pure and Porto Pure Burgers: Beef patty with or without Portobello mushrooms, with lettuce, tomato and a tasty house dressing on an egg bun.

Kansas’ own Creekstone Farms, founded in 1995, is responsible for the non-hormone, natural grass-fed beef in these burgers. Ironically, Unforked has a beef supplier who uses the slogan “farm-to-fork” as opposed to the usual “farm-to-table.” But don’t sweat the small stuff. These burgers are too good for that.

Veggie Thai Dye Burger: Grilled marinated portobello mushroom topped with Thai sweet chiles, roasted Brussel sprouts, and melted mozzarella on a toasted egg bun. Try this with a side of truffle fries or cauliflower rice.

Tacos and Quesadillas

Just like the burgers, the taco menu offers food prepared with only fresh, locally-sourced ingredients. Vegetarian and gluten-free options are available.

Here are some of the best tacos at Unforked in Overland Park:

  • Citrus-Crunch Chicken: Honey citrus guajillo glazed tempura, all-natural chicken breast with blistered onions, poblanos, fresh cilantro sprig, and queso fresco.
  • Barking Pig Taco: Carnitas in shagbark bacon glaze, scallions, and queso fresco.
  • Ma-la Bello Taco: Portobello mushroom, red onions, kale, pesto, and queso fresco.
  • Crispy Avocado: Avocado, fresh pico de gallo, and micro greens.

Unforked’s large crispy quesadilla also comes in three flavors: cheese, chicken, and portobello.

Don’t Forget Dessert

Ice cream? We don’t need no stinking ice cream. Unforked is rather a house of frozen custard with tasty shakes, sundaes and their signature treats, known as “concretes.”

  • Raspberry Yogi: Fresh raspberries, ice chips, and fresh yogurt.
  • Fudge Brownie Pothole: A base of frozen vanilla custard, chunks of peanut butter and brownie pieces with a rich fudge center.
  • Kiss My Bundt: Chocolate bundt cake made from scratch, filled with hot fudge, topped with vanilla frozen custard, and finished with raspberries.

And finally, local wine, craft beer, and frozen margaritas are available daily. The weekly “Wine Wednesday” is an especially great night for wine lovers. Every bottle is half price from 5:00 pm to close.

And be sure to visit the new Crown Center location as well when you head to Unforked in Overland Park!
